Technology Can Phil Schiller Keep Apple Cool?

Steve Jobs always oversaw Apple’s (AAPL) blockbuster product launches, but he was never a one-man show. Phil Schiller, the company’s longtime senior vice president of product marketing, often hammed it up onstage as the lower-brow counterweight to Apple’s cool, polished chief executive officer. In 1999, Schiller jumped off a 15-foot platform to show off Apple’s new iBook. In 2007, he demoed new videoconferencing features by superimposing his mouth on a photo of Steve Ballmer. “I love my Mac!” Schiller had the Microsoft (MSFT) chief declare. MORE CLICK

Mobile gaming apps especially enjoying perks from the smartphone swell

Smartphones are slowly and surely becoming a larger piece of the mobile device pie. According to a Mobile Mix report by mobile advertising and data platform provider Millennial Media, in Q1 2012, 73% of mobile impressions served by Millennial Media were delivered on smartphones, trailed by nonphone connected devices at 20% and feature phones at 7%. Millennial Media largely attributed smartphone impression growth to consumers upgrading from feature phones to internet-connected devices.

Mobile Ad Requests Worldwide Served by Millennial Media, by Device Type, Q1 2011 & Q1 2012 (% of total)

Smartphone prevalence is contributing to the rapid growth of mobile video and mobile gaming. According to Millennial Q1 data, there has been a 958% year-over-year increase in mobile ad video views on the platform. Developers and brands alike are contributing more video ads and video content, which is a likely reason for the mobile video surge.
April data from market research firm Strategy Analytics also captured the steep growth of mobile video. In 2011, Strategy Analytics cited 108 billion mobile videos viewed worldwide; in 2012 that number has already climbed to 280 billion views.

3 Ways to Supercharge Fan Engagement on Facebook

3 Ways to Supercharge Fan Engagement on Facebook...some great examples and reading here:

3 Ways to Supercharge Fan Engagement on FacebookFor most business owners, their biggest Facebook challenge is keeping fans consistently engaged. Whether you have 135 or 13,500 likes, the only way to really profit from a business page is to motivate fans to click, share and, eventually, act by buying a product or signing up for an event.
Unfortunately, persistently low engagement is a catch-22. Your brand page's EdgeRank score -- Facebook's algorithm for determining how content is featured in the News Feed -- is determined largely by user interactions. If your EdgeRank drops, your updates can languish, meaning users won't see them and may not interact with your page. That will result in an even lower EdgeRank.
But when applied consistently, these three strategies can turn the tide and increase fans' interaction with your Facebook page:
1. Market content with images.
The rise of the social networking site Pinterest underscores how much people love images and, more importantly, love sharing them. Visual marketing is about creating what I call relevant viral content -- content your core audience can't resist sharing. They're the people who are most likely to buy from you, so focus on catering to their interests with relevant and appealing images and strong calls to action.

Twitter to Top $1 Billion in Ad Revenue in 2014

Twitter is expected to bring in more than $1 billion in advertising revenue in 2014, according to a report.
Two people “with knowledge of the matter,” who are apparently irked at some analysts’ low forecasts, told Bloomberg that ad revenue would be “at least” $1 billion before the company’s ninth birthday. By comparison, eight-year-old Facebook generated more than $3 billion in ad revenue in 2011.
A Twitter spokesperson declined to comment.
Estimates published by eMarketer earlier this year suggest that the Twitter will only generate $540 million in ad revenue in 2014 — about double what eMarketer forecasts the San Francisco-based startup will bring in this year. Growth will be driven in part by Twitter’s self-service advertising platform for small businesses, which launched in November, and by international expansion, eMarketer said. Currently, 90% of ad revenue come from U.S. companies.
Unlike many other web-based publishers, Twitter doesn’t depend on display advertising for the bulk of its ad revenue. Instead, it has launched a suite of “Promoted” products that allow companies to increase the visibility of specific accounts, tweets and trending topics. Adam Bain, president of global revenue for Twitter, says Promoted Trends and Promoted Tweets yield engagement rates between 3% and 10% on average — many multiples higher than the average banner ad.

Google Product Search To Become Google Shopping, Use Pay-To-Play Model

Google Product Search To Become Google Shopping, Use Pay-To-Play Model

Google Product Search is getting a new name, Google Shopping, and a new business model where only merchants that pay will be listed. It’s the first time Google will decommission a search product that previously listed companies for free. The company says the change will improve the searcher experience, but it will also likely raise new worries that Google may further cut free listings elsewhere.
“This is about delivering the best answers for people searching for products and helping connect merchants with the right customers,” said Sameer Samat, vice president of product management for Google Shopping, when explaining that by moving to an all-paid model, Google believes it will have better and more trustworthy data that will improve the shopping search experience for its users.
